Vent Free Gas Log Problem

Vent Free Gas Log Problem

Please be aware that it's imperative that you not move or rearrange the ceramic logs on a vent free gas log set! During the ANNUAL MAINTENANCE on this set of vent free gas logs we noted several problems. Due to either improper setup at installation or the homeowner moving the ceramic logs, there was visible sooting on the logs. Vent free (ventless or unvented) gas logs must NEVER produce soot; when the damper is closed this will result in soot and carbon monoxide entering your home. Keep in mind that soot is carbon; where you see soot there has also been carbon monoxide present! Additionally there needs to be a fireplace screen in place per code requirements. All gas logs should have an annual maintenance done so we can catch and correct any safety and performance issues.
